World Travel Market 2022

It never fails to amaze me as to just how resilient the Travel Industry is!  They bounce back every time.

Last week no one would have known that we have all suffered chaos and tragedy during the past barren two years.

Excellently organised, happy atmosphere lots of energy everywhere.

So wonderful to see all “my” Mexicans, old friends and new faces bright as buttons and keen to gather new business

What a surprise to find the FAIRMONT headed up by Marco Paramo and Ana Ramirez. Best in the business! This lovely property built in 2006, I actually attended the opening but sadly I have not visited recently.  What I have missed! I intend to visit very soon.

Fairmont hidden in the enclave of MAYAKOBA is an absolute gem. Reasonable in price with beautiful ocean front rooms, it attracts the very discerning client that does not want to be actually in Cancun. With Butler service Casitas……Anyone who knows me is aware that I love my food!! I am therefore “Blown Away” by the extensive and exquisite cuisine they have.  The Savoy in London is part of the company portfolio so what more needs to be said!! Who can forget the famous Savoy Grill.  I cannot recommend it highly enough! Please know that any hotel I choose to talk about has to be very, very special,

This property is barely a year old. Streamlined, slick and smooth they have a signature chef and one of the most important elements in Mexico City a swimming pool! Situated on the famous Reforma. Very important for me because this area is where I do all my shopping!

This Hotel is true luxury and elegance at a reasonable price.

I met up with the U.K. Marketing Director Denise Marquez Neves. Smart and Savvy Denise is based in Norwich. I have known and worked with this great Company for many years. They have launched a new product called “MARGARITAVILLE” please check out the web site.

The great and good Sakari Malinen, one of Mexico’s top hotel men, heads up this amazing retreat.

You will learn more about Mexico staying here than in any library!

Two good and greats Manuel Diez Cebrian and Rodrigo Esponda working hard.

CASA KIMBERLY – during all my years working with Mexico I tried and succeed in persuading my clients to visit the “real Mexico”, the heart of the country. Puerto Vallarta on Mexico’s  Pacific coast in Jalisco’s state is one of the true, romantic beach destinations.

What can be even more romantic than the old home of Elizabeth Taylor “Casa Kimberly” now a nine bedroomed boutique hotel! Since I am halfway through reading “The Richard Burton Diaries”, where he has dedicated many pages to Puerta Vallarta. I cannot urge you enough to visit.

Bumped into James Bell. What great times we had years ago working with Cara Marketing.

(AMR Resorts)

As always, the Spanish stand was overflowing with delegates from all over Spain, all with enthusiasm and a great love of their country, As indeed have I.

I was thrilled to meet again with Francine Armengol and her team; what a great job they do.

I still have not got over my lovely meeting with the King of Spain last month. He came to honour the grand and great Gabriel Escarrer with the Spanish equivalent of a knighthood for his lifetime work with Melia. No one deserves it more …

Cruising the stand I came upon Estefania Gonzalvo, the Mayor of Andratx. In my day the Mayoress was always a big lady with a huge gold chain round her neck. Estefania is as pretty as a picture, in stiletto heels and no gold chain!

She is doing a great job promoting this region of the Island.

I was lured on to the stand with the promise of a Pisco Sour! Stayed for an hour food sublime

Another good and great of the hospitality Industry, John Wales, launched his new venture Ticket pipe at WTM.. A trade only/groups activity with London Theatre as its initial offering. . Destined to be a great success (but then I am biased as he is my son in law)

So ends my sojourn at this year’s WTM; I cannot emphasise enough how pleased I am at linking up with Fairmont again, But the star of the show for me was the Elizabeth Line!!

It made what used to be a complicated journey stress free!!

Just had to squeeze this in….5th December….Something to make you feel Christmasy…I attended yesterday the legendary

A.W.T.E. Christmas luncheon. Absolutely amazing. Beautiful venue The Swan at the Globe…..The room was like walking onto the set of Phantom. .Gorgeous red roses and chandeliers everywhere.  A lot of networking and believe  it or not a lot of dancing

going on!…..simply fabulous, I felt proud to be there. Every woman in the Travel Industry should be a Member of this fine organisation.

So with this said let me wish you a FELIZ NAVIDAD to my Mexican friends and a HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

See you at FITUR in Madrid 2023 and TIANGUIS in Mexico City in March
